IOSM Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding

Programme Overview

This qualification is designed for those learners wishing to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a qualified pool lifeguard. It covers the preparation, health and safety of a swimming pool environment, and how to respond to pool emergencies and emergency situations in the swimming pool. Learners wishing to acquire this qualification will need to meet the entry requirements outlined in this specification. The content and assessment of the Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding have been written in accordance with regulations and guidance issued by the Health and Safety Executive and SkillsActive the Sector Skills Council for the Active, Leisure and Well-being sector.

Progression
Upon successful completion learners may wish to continue their development via the completion of any of the following signposted qualifications/training: *Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work *Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work *Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation
Entry Requirement
In order to register on to this qualification, it is strongly recommended that every learner should be able to: *jump/dive into deep water *swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds *swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water *tread water for 30 seconds *surface dive to the floor of the pool *climb out of the pool without ladder/steps *It is also advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or recognised equivalent.
