The Board of Governance is responsible to safeguard the organisation and the interests of its stakeholders by advising on the Strategic Plan, upholding the General Conditions of Recognition laid out by the regulatory body and government departments. A brief profile of each current member is listed below.
John is responsible to take the chair at general meetings and at board meetings. He is also responsible to ensure that the board is effective in its tasks of setting and implementing IOSM's direction and strategy.
John has had a very varied working background including working for over a decade as a research scientist in the nuclear industry. He started and ran a harbour cruise business, for over 10 years, on Sydney Harbour. He has been teaching at the University of Greenwich as a Senior Lecturer since 2007. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at a number of universities around the world. He is currently working towards his Doctorate. He has mentored a number of private businesses as a consultant.
Duncan's role entails being ultimately responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the organisation's long and short term plans and to maintain the smooth operation, with the assistance of management team. He also acts as a direct liaison between the Board and management of IOSM and communicates to the Board on behalf of management.
Duncan has broad experience in Higher Education Management over 10 years. He possesses an MBA from the University of Greenwich. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and a Fellow of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management.
Ann has worked in both the Further and Higher Education sectors, most recently as Principal of a Further Education College and launching a distance learning college. Ann has worked for various Government agencies: major international awarding bodies; the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and Sector Skills Councils, in numerous roles. She was a Trustee of the e-Learning Foundation, and participant in national think tanks and employer groups. Ann regularly speaks at regional and national conferences and has been Chief Executive and President of PACE, a Professional Association for the Hospitality Education Industry.
Patricia is responsible for ensuring that accurate minutes of meetings are taken and approved. The date, time, location of meeting; list of those present and absent; list of items discussed; list of reports presented; text of motions presented and description of their disposition. She possesses a Bachelor degree in Training and Development form the University of New England. Patricia is considerable overseas and UK experience in the health and hospitality industry, including teaching and training students with English as a second language. She also has operational experience within hotels, teaching a variety of hospitality related topics; and has worked extensively in Uganda, Vietnam, Egypt, New Zealand, Malta, Maldives, and China developing the curriculum for local health programmes and joint venture hotel management. Patricia also has substantial experience of setting and marking examinations for UK health and safety programmes awarding bodies.
