The Management team



The Management team is responsible for day-to-day operations in line with the IOSM Board's direction. The Management team is also responsible for taking operational decisions and policies, keeping the Board educated and informed, and brings to the board well-documented recommendations and information to support its policy-making, decision-making and oversight responsibilities.

Thomas Duncan | CEO and Board Member

Duncan's role entails being ultimately responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the organisation's long and short term plans and to maintain the smooth operation, with the assistance of management team. He also acts as a direct liaison between the Board and management of IOSM and communicates to the Board on behalf of management.

Duncan has broad experience in Higher Education Management over 10 years. He possesses an MBA from the University of Greenwich. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and a Fellow of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management.

Debbie Land | Head of Compliance and Quality Assurance

Debbie is the Responsible Officer who maintains regulatory compliance and relationship with all regulatory bodies. She is also responsible for overall quality assurance matters.

She has extensive experience of working across all fields of education provision including universities, colleges and private training providers. She has taught at UK universities, held key roles in partnership with universities and undertaking external examiner and validation responsibilities for various HEIs. Debbie has experience in working with awarding organisations particularly in relation to qualification development, compliance and quality assurance. She has sound experience of working with regulatory bodies such as UKAS and QAA.

Joel Braathe | Head of Qualifications and Assessment

Joel is responsible for the development and maintenance of regulated qualifications and their assessments, ensuring that they are fit for purpose, meeting regulatory requirements and customer needs. He is an experienced qualifications and assessments professional, well versed in qualification development and the regulatory environment. He has developed nationally regulated, international and bespoke employer qualifications in the vocational and professional education sector.

Joel has worked with a number of leading UK awarding organisations and professional education providers particularly in relation to qualification and assessment development, quality assurance and product management. He has comprehensive experience of working with regulatory and government bodies such as Ofqual and QCDA, as well as a range of industry bodies, including Sector Skills Councils and apprenticeship trailblazer stakeholders.
